Mohamed Salah arrives in Istanbul wearing Trabzonspor shirt to finalise move
Mohamed Salah has arrived in Istanbul wearing a Trabzonspor shirt to finalise a move to the Turkish Super Lig side.
Hundreds of fans were on hand to greet the former Liverpool forward at Ataturk Airport after the club announced on Tuesday evening that he would travel to Trabzon via Istanbul. In a video posted on the club’s social media accounts, Salah said: “Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you. See you very soon.” The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving Liverpool this summer following nine years at the club, where he scored 257 times in 442 appearances and won two Premier League titles and the Champions League. Salah has been linked with several clubs this summer, and had received an offer from Trabzonspor’s Super Lig rivals Besiktas. A deal for the former Premier League player of the season and Golden Boot winner would be a significant coup for Trabzonspor, who won the last of their seven Turkish league titles in 2022. The other six came during a golden period between 1976 and 1984. Trabzonspor finished third last season, eight points behind champions Galatasaray, and face a play-off against opponents to be determined to qualify for the league phase of the Europa League. If they fall short, they will play in the Conference League.
