Matt Peet hails Wigan squad as they claim Leaders Shield

Wigan boss Matt Peet saluted his table-topping Warriors after beating Catalan Dragons to claim a sixth Super League Leaders Shield.

Tries from Liam Marshall (2), Harry Smith, Brad O’Neill, Liam Farrell, Austin Daniel, Jai Field, Zach Eckersley and Adam Keighran saw Wigan win 50-12 and race in to the play-offs in style.

The Warriors, who were trophyless in 2025, are now two games away from a treble having won the Challenge Cup in May.

“A lot of emotion, that was part of the challenge to put that to one side and be clinical with our performance,” Peet told the BBC:

“So far so good but it’s not without its challenges. Hopefully those challenges bring us through in good stead. We’ve got a good group here.”

Second-placed Leeds saw their Shield hopes disappear with a shock 18-12 home defeat to lowly Hull.

Head coach Brad Arthur told the BBC: “Our last two weeks haven’t been great but in 14 days that isn’t going to count for anything really.

“We’ve got five or six sessions leading into the game to recover and make sure everyone knows what their job is.

“We are 80 minutes from Old Trafford and we’ve got to get it right.”

Much-changed Warrington sealed third place and a home eliminator against Hull KR by beating Toulouse 26-14.

“Although we rested a lot of players, we expected to win and the players drove that,” Wolves boss Sam Burgess told the Warrington Guardian.

Rovers head into the eliminator on the back of a 36-12 defeat to St Helens, who will end the season in seventh outside the play-off places.

Wakefield won 19-8 at Leigh to secure home advantage in a play-off eliminator between the two sides next Friday.

Leigh boss Adrian Lam told the BBC: “It was quite average to watch at times but Wakey did some good stuff.”
