Hollywood star Jason Momoa admits ‘acting is not my cup of tea’
Hollywood star Jason Momoa has admitted “acting is probably not my cup of tea” and said he “fell into” his career path.
The 47-year-old started acting in the early 2000s, appearing in TV series such as Baywatch: Hawaii and Stargate Atlantis, and rocketed to international fame after landing a role in award-winning series Game Of Thrones.
Momoa turned his hand to producing, directing and writing in the 2010s but also continued to act, featuring in Hollywood blockbusters such as Dune: Part One, Fast X, and in several DC superhero films as Aquaman.
Despite starting his career as a teenager, the star revealed on the At The Bar podcast that he never intended to become an actor.
“I’m not really an actor,” he said. “There’s so many people I respect as actors, and I just feel like I enjoy filmmaking.
“I enjoy probably writing and directing and producing, putting things together. I enjoy stories. I enjoy all that process.”
Momoa added: “I think the acting’s probably not my cup of tea.
“Like, I’m not dying to do theatre and (…) I never (set) out to do that. I kind of fell into it.”
Momoa also reflected on his celebrity status and said it is “tough” being frequently approached by fans when out in public.
He added that he particularly does not like being interrupted when with his children or his girlfriend, actress Adria Arjona.
“If you pull my attention away from something I’m like, ‘I’m sorry. No, this is not the right time’,” Momoa said.
“They’re not in the wrong and I’m not. I’m trying not to look like an asshole, but you can’t please everyone.
“I’ll do my best.”
