Teachers and construction workers in demand as other sectors struggle – study
Vacancies for jobs in travel, teaching and construction increased in recent weeks, research has shown.
But sectors including healthcare, nursing, hospitality and logistics posted fewer vacancies. Adzuna said the total number of job vacancies across the UK fell last month for the first time in four months. The jobs site said its study suggested that the recovery reported over the spring has gone into reverse. Andrew Hunter of Adzuna, said: “July’s numbers are a step backwards, not a blip. “The annual vacancy decline got worse for the first time since January, and (the number of) jobseekers per vacancy are now higher than they were a year ago. “The graduate job market also keeps setting new lows, which tells us employers still haven’t found a reason to open up hiring at that level. “It isn’t all bad news. Teaching, travel and trade & construction are still adding roles, and manufacturing is now doing the same too. “But that’s a short list, and everyone outside of these sectors is having a harder time than they were three months ago.” A Government spokesperson said: “The latest figures show there are 253,000 more people in work than this time last year with unemployment continuing to fall. “We are determined to go further to restore opportunity for young people through our £2.5 billion youth employment package which will deliver almost one million opportunities to earn or learn. “And further reform will follow the Milburn Review to support young people across the country.”
